Financial Controller at SHV Energy

Main responsibilities: reporting & consolidation of financial (management) information, compliance with and set-up of new accounting guidelines within SHV Energy and management and set-up of new key reporting systems/ processes. Being a strong business partner for colleagues across the globe and other stakeholders.

SHV Energy is the largest Business Unit within SHV Group: active in 21 countries, 17.000 employees and €9 billion net sales.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Financial reports

  • Preparing timely and accurate management (financial) information on a monthly and quarterly basis (actual, budget and rolling forecast) and on request

  • Presenting management (financial) reports to senior executives, stakeholders and board members

  • Ensure quality control over financial reporting

2. Accounting guidelines

  • Ensure proper compliance with all applicable accounting regulations

  • Coordinate, develop and update internal accounting policies and guidelines

  • Research technical accounting issues for compliance

3. Business partner

  • Providing helpful feedback to colleagues and other stakeholders (e.g. close process, accounting principles, IT reporting systems etc.)

  • Participate in special projects as required

4. Reporting process/ system

  • Implement new group reporting system and related procedures 

  • Take initiative and drive continuous improvement activities related to reporting processes and systems (SAP BPC and Power BI)

  • Managing the financial reporting process (including budgeting and forecasting)

  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls over financial reporting process

  • Perform continuous assessment of the close process and process re-engineering to reduce the timing to close the financial period

  • Support of month end close of allocated Bus

  • Educate BUs in reporting and improving Record to report process

5. Annual report

  • Coordinate and prepare the Company’s annual report

  • Coordinate the Company’s annual audit with independent auditors

6. Management

  • Management of stakeholders: understanding of business requirements and effective communication

Job requirements

What we are looking for:

  • 5+ years of overall combined accounting and finance experience in an international environment for a large company or a big 4 audit firm

  • Master’s degree in accounting or business administration

  • Working experience in an international environment

  • Currently living and working in the Netherlands

  • Strong finance reporting and analytical skills

  • Experience with month-end/ year-end close process

  • Advanced understanding of accounting principles and procedures (IFRS)

  • Thorough knowledge of working with (financial) data models and IT systems (such as SAP BPC and Power BI)

  • Excellent proficiency in English both written and verbal

  • Good communication skills

  • Primarily in office environment. Will be expected to travel as needed to company subsidiaries
