Health & Safety Governance Manager

The Health & Safety Governance Manager develops and manages the governance processes that enable SHV Energy to steer Health & Safety in a consistent, data-driven and effective way. The role focuses on establishing a common H&S Operating Management System, strengthening reporting and insights, improving self-verification within the business units and supporting the H&S compliance and CSRD journey.

For the right candidate that fulfils all requirements, this position is offered in Hay Grade 18.

The high level key activities of this role are: 

  • Apply a "Fix–Flex–Free approach" within the Operating Management System, aligned with SHV Energy’s highly decentralized culture. This approach clarifies which H&S basics are mandatory and non-negotiable for all business units, which elements can be implemented in phases and in line with the local roadmap, and which recommendations or best practices can serve as inspiration.

  • System thinking and pragmatic professional approach with understanding how H&S governance needs to work in practice within an international, decentralized organization.

  • Cultural sensitive, empathetic and collaborative working attitude, while also being decisive when agreements are not met.

  • Grasping opportunities to use new technologies, including AI, and implement them in a pragmatic and responsible way to strengthen H&S processes, insights and decision-making.

  • Through strong collaboration with business units and central H&S experts, contributing to stronger risk management, greater ownership in the line, more consistent H&S processes and the further development of an independent safety culture.

Job requirements

What we are looking for:

The ideal candidate combines strong subject-matter understanding of Health & Safety governance with the ability to work effectively in a complex, international and decentralized organization. They are able to translate group requirements into practical solutions that reflect the operational reality of the business units.

  • Nebosh qualified H&S professional or  equivalent professional H&S experience  

  • A systems thinker who can oversee complex processes, interdependencies and governance elements, and translate them into a clear, coherent and workable H&S management system.

  • A pragmatic H&S professional who understands the operational reality of the business units and is able to reconcile this with the requirements of the H&S Operating Management System.

  • Strong ability to find the right balance between group-wide consistency, local autonomy and practical implementation.

  • Culturally sensitive and organisationally aware, with the ability to understand different cultural contexts, maturity levels and business realities, and respond effectively to them.

  • Empathetic and collaborative, with the ability to build trust with local BU teams and central stakeholders.

  • At the same time, decisive and firm when agreements, standards or non-negotiable H&S basics are not being met.

  • A strong team player who builds constructive relationships with both the business units and central H&S Subject Matter Experts.

  • Able to stimulate collaboration, knowledge sharing and ownership across different countries, disciplines and organisational levels.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain complex governance topics clearly and convincingly.

  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to translate data, verification outcomes and compliance insights into actionable management information and improvement actions.

  • Openness and curiosity towards new technologies, including AI, and the ability to explore how these can contribute to stronger H&S governance, data-driven insights, reporting, verification processes and continuous improvement.

  • Experience with Health & Safety management systems, governance processes, reporting, compliance and/or assurance in an international environment.

  • Knowledge of the LPG business or experience in another distributed business with multiple operational entities is a clear plus.
